Home > Accreditation

A school’s accreditation is a quality guarantee. There are two types of accreditation: of institutions and of programs. The former guarantees that a particular school meets the required standards of the educational system within which it operates. In our case, these are the British and Bulgarian educational systems. The program accreditation allows the students to obtain educational degrees, which – in our case – are British and Bulgarian. All VUM graduates of the 12 classes that have completed their studies hold British Bachelor ‘s degrees. Additionally, higher schools can be accredited also by other academic organizations. In this way, they may be eligible for organizational membership or be able to administer exams that lead to a professional qualification.

Institutional accreditation

VUM was created by decree of the National Assembly and was accredited as a higher school by the NAOA. Besides, VUM, Sofia, has been accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) as an institution providing higher education. This is very important because it means that we are recognized as a higher school (university) that operates within the British educational system. The BAC has the authority to give institutional accreditation to higher schools in the United Kingdom and to institutions in other countries if they use programs of British universities.

The main criteria for evaluating British higher schools are:
  • Quality management
  • Administration and faculty
  • Tuition
  • Student services
  • Facilities

The BAC verifies on the ground that the standards of the British system in those five areas have been met. If a particular higher school has been accredited, that means that it fulfils all standards that are in force in the United Kingdom.

Program accreditation

VUM Sofia has had program accreditation since 1994. This means that its students have been able to graduate with Bachelor ‘s degrees from the Cardiff Metropolitan University.  As all British higher schools,  VUM is evaluated annually by British auditors, in accordance with the rules of the Quality Assurance Agency.  Every three years we undergo a complete academic audit that confirms the quality of the educational process for another three to five years. The latest audit resulted in a positive review and a five-year confirmation.
